Farmers Market Day!

Every other Saturday I get bookoos of fruits and veggies for $20. I enlisted the kids help and had a nice time prepping things for cooking or freezing. I love pictures of colorful produce! For dinner we had asparagus tofu soup, corn on the cob and crustless spinach quiche with brown bread and jam for dessert. The kids enjoyed it all and I think that it helped to have them doing all the chopping and washing first. Getting close to nature!

I am a weak sinner (a.k.a. human)

1 Timothy 1:15
This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.

All day long, the majority of my thoughts are about me. About things I hate about myself, about how I could do something better, about how I failed at this or that 8 years ago, about how if I don't change things soon I'll fail again......
What a selfish sinner I am! I am like the ungodly in Romans 1 who "because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. " What futile thoughts these are! No wonder my outlook has been negative and darkened!
Romans 8:5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
OK, so I guess I've been back in the flesh again.... but I have hope! God's thoughts towards me! He loves me - all the time.

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Isaiah 26:3
You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.

Isaiah 55:8
“ For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD.

His thoughts towards me are love and peace and my thoughts are sick and wrong!
So I am definitely not loving Him with all my mind if 75% of my day I am hating myself or my actions. Therefore, I will gird up the loins of my mind - I looked that up. When men needed freedom to work, run or fight, they would tuck the hem of their tunic into their girdle. So it is a metaphor for being prepared for service.

1 Peter 1:13
Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Thinking of myself all day long (whether pridefully or negatively) is still not thinking about others. It is just selfish and fleshly. I want the freedom to work, run or fight that comes with freeing my mind of any thought that is not from Him.
I have a future and hope in Him!

Where Flamingos Fly by Van Morrison

This is my favorite love song. It is by Van Morrison. I prefer listening to his soulish singing than reading it but I thought I might as well post this since it is my blog name. And honestly, I just use 'flamingosfly' anywhere that I need a user name or something because it is always available.

Go for a ride
In the still of the night
And morning brings forth
All this wonderful delight
Couldn't have made it more plain
When I heard that soft refrain
And I heard you gently sigh

Wanna take you where flamingos fly, flamingos fly
Way over yonder in the clear blue sky
That's where flamingos fly

Lie in the dark
With the sound of the nightingale
Listen for a lark
I will tell you a tale
Breeze is blowin', blowin' outside
Wanna take that moonlight ride
When I hear you gently sigh

Wanna take you where flamingos fly, flamingos fly
Way over yonder in the clear blue sky
That's where flamingos fly

Well we're here and we're waiting
For that morning light to shine
And I'm looking at you looking at me looking right back at you
And I'm anticipating
Sounds along the way
Looking at you looking at me looking right back at you, hey

I'll follow the road
That will take me, take me right back home
And carry that load
Where the deer and the provincial angels roam
Happiness touches, touches me now
I know where it came from and how
When I hear you gently sigh

Wanna take you where flamingos fly, flamingos fly
Way over yonder in the clear blue sky
That's where flamingos fly, flamingos fly
Way over the rooftops of the houses
I heard it one time, I heard it one time in a lullaby
I heard it one time, I heard it one time in a lullaby
Somewhere, somewhere, somewhere way over the rooftops of the houses
Heard it one time in a lullaby
Heard it one time, heard it one time in a lullaby

Let's get it started

I've got to get this blog rolling. How else will the masses learn about me and the great things I have to say? Gotta love those masses. Always crying out for more of Ami, searching out her foibles. Welcome to my life (as time permits).

I'll probably talk alot about the kids. They are my life, for now. They are fascinating little people with great ideas and lots of lessons to teach me. They have brought me closer to God. (Or should I say , driven me to God?) It constantly amazes me how they show me my own folly. The way they act towards me is the way I act towards God. They fuss and complain and yet they always have everything they need and I can usually anticipate their needs, saving them the trouble of having to complain. They cry for water while I am busy making them chocolate milk. It just takes a little longer sometimes to get something better than just what you need.
How often do I act that way towards God, fussing and worrying when His promises are right there before me, when all I have to do is trust and wait.

God is good...all the time.
